The federal government issued an alert in March 2020 that stated sophisticated hackers were targeting COVID-19 researchers in Canada, however it did so without citing specific attacks or evidence.

Nevertheless, the security establishment and researchers alike are continuing to take the warning from the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security seriously – and for good reason.

As Canada’s largest population health study, we know the importance of keeping our data safe and secure, to protect both the privacy of our participants and maintain the integrity and quality of the data. Our National Scientific Director, Dr. Philip Awadalla, speaks to this in The Globe and Mail:
