POSTPONED – Hybrid event: From air to ailment: trainees study pollution’s role in disease onset
POSTPONEMENT NOTICE: Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have postponed this CanPath event. We apologize for the short notice and any inconvenience this may cause. We are working on rescheduling and will announce the new date soon. Stay tuned on this page for updates!
About the event
Are you curious about how environmental factors like air pollution affect our health? Join us for an engaging event where four MPH in Epidemiology students from the Dalla Lana School of Public Health (DLSPH) share their cutting-edge research conducted during their summer practicum at CanPath.
Discover how Fatima investigates the link between air pollution and endometriosis, Natalie explores its impact on inflammatory bowel diseases, Emilia examines connections to cardiometabolic conditions, and Taryn studies the association with early-onset type II diabetes mellitus. Their findings provide new insights into the complex relationship between air quality and chronic diseases, highlighting the importance of environmental health research.
This event is a must-attend for trainees and early-career researchers interested in epidemiology, public health, and environmental sciences. Gain valuable knowledge, network with peers, and get inspired by the innovative work of your fellow researchers.
About the presenters
Emilia Chryscienko graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University with an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Health Science and is currently completing a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology. She is interested in capturing Canadians’ social, economic, and health data to improve health outcomes, by applying an interdisciplinary approach in health research. She hopes to further develop skills related to the research process, while working on a project which aligns with her passion for health equity, social determinants of health, mental health, and non-communicable diseases.
Fatima Ali is a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology student at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health. Her research interests involve the spatial and environmental epidemiology of communicable and non-communicable diseases, with a special interest in how environmental exposures shape health outcomes. She is incredibly excited to be a part of the CanPath team this summer. She is eager to work with CanPath data to understand how the environment impacts the mental and physical health of Canadians.
Natalie Wilson is a Master in Public Health in Epidemiology student at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health. Before starting her academic journey at Dalla Lana, she completed an Honours Bachelor of Science at McMaster University in Molecular Biology and Genetics Co-op. Her interests include disease modelling and understanding the underlying genetic and immunological risk factors for disease at the population level.
Taryn Thompson is completing her Master of Public Health in Epidemiology program at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health. Her main research interests are environmental and lifestyle exposures and their influence on population health outcomes. She is thrilled to learn from the incredible team at CanPath and is committed to understanding of risk factors linked to the chronic diseases that burden Canadians.
